Sri Lanka has a centuries old tradition of handmade brass. This antique brass plate comes from the Batticaloa region on the north east coast of Sri Lanka. This was an area that was badly affected by the 2004 Tsunami and is now emerging as a tourist destination with its beautiful golden sand beaches. There were many old Dutch families living in Batticaloa and it is believed that these were some of the items that they used. Brass is widely used in Sri Lanka either as ornamental pieces or functional vessels for food preparation and serving. Size 250mm diameter x 50mm high. 230mm W x 50mm H
